In this video guitar lesson we will begin our study of the great Frank Gambale’s Pentatonic Scale sweeping technique.
If you aren’t familiar with Frank Gambale and his style I urge you to check him out. He personally revolutionized sweep picking technique on the guitar back in the 1980′s and 90′s.
In this lesson I will show you patterns for learning how to sweep pick the first 3 pentatonic shapes. Take your time with this new technique and make sure that you are actually sweeping across the strings and not doing multiple separate upstrokes or downstrokes.
This technique will give you a new sound at your fingertips when playing pentatonics, one that is more legato and flowing.
These patterns do require some pretty large stretches, but if you make sure that you keep your thumb low behind the neck with your fingers pointed upwards towards the ceiling I think your hands will gradually be able to be comfortable when playing these stretches.
Be sure to grab the PDF TAB download for this lesson because it has all of the picking indications.

In part two we will cover the last two pentatonic shapes and I will show you a quick little way of practicing these patterns together. Stay Tuned!!
