In this free video guitar lesson we will take a look at Eric Johnson’s exciting use of pedal tones in his solo playing.

Eric Johnson usually employs hybrid picking to accocmplish a fast fluid pedal tone sound that fluently transitions between many different strings. The hybrid picking pattern that he uses is actually quite simple and straightforward and shouldn’t present much of a problem to get under your fingers.

Try and keep the note separation clean because letting two notes rings together will create a pretty dissonant and ugly sound, especially when using a high gain setting.

Download the TAB PDF for this lesson below.

This installment of the “Lick Of The Week” series at GuitarLessons365.com focuses on the pedal tone picking style of Yngwie Malmsteen.

This exciting technique is influenced by the baroque music of J.S. Bach and creates a very flowing guitar sound. The technique required to play this lick is pretty straightforward, it just may take a little while to get the coordination down with all the alternate picking across strings.

Start slow then work it up to speed just like you would with any other guitar lesson. Also, even though Yngwie usually plays this type of lick at extremely fast speeds, it also sounds quite beautiful when played slowly. So you should also experiment with it when playing melodic melodies in your improvisations.

Grab the TAB PDF download for this lesson below.

In this video guitar lesson we will take a look at a cool scale technique used by players such as Dimebag Darrell, Eddie Van Halen and Dave Mustaine.

It involves taking a one string guitar lick and symmetrically moving it across strings creating a very unpredictable yet exciting musical effect on the listener.

The video demonstrates various uses of this technique including using it within tapping licks. There really are no limits to what you can do using various types of symmetrical guitar licks.

This free video guitar lesson demonstrates an interesting technique that you can use to spice up your guitar solos.

It incorporates slides, and large interval skips to create an unorthodox yet still very musical sound. This technique can be heard in the playing style of Guthrie Govan among many others. It helps to give your playing a very unpredictable sound while also freeing you up to play larger interval skips within the melodies that you create.

Don’t forget to download the free TAB PDF download for this lessons. You can find it below.

In this “Lick Of The Week” free video guitar lesson from GuitarLessons365.com you will learn how to play diminished arpeggios in the style of the great Randy Rhoads.

There are many ways to finger and pick these types of arpeggios. I have chosen a sweep picking pattern to play them to more closely achieve that Randy Rhaods sound.

Randy Rhoads used this pattern a few times in his solos. Most notably in his unaccompanied guitar solo during “Suicide Solution” on the live tribute album. By the way, if you don’t have that album I highly suggest picking it up. I think it is Randy Rhoads at his absolute best!

The pattern is rather simple and shouldn’t take long to grasp. Then you just repeat it across different string sets. There are a few big stretches as well, but as long as you position your thumb on the back of the neck in the proper position you shouldn’t have much of a problem doing the stretches no matter how long your fingers are.

Don’t forget to download the free TAB PDF for this lesson so you can more easily follow the video lesson. Get it from the link below.

In this video guitar lesson we will take a look at the unique string skipping arpeggios style of the great Paul Gilbert.

Paul Gilbert is undoubtedly one of the most popular guitar shredders of all time. He is known for his otherworldly technique and precision. He literally never seems to ever mess up. That is why we all love him yet hate him at the same time.

The technique we are studying in the video guitar lesson is his string skipping arpeggios style. He uses this technique often in his popular instrumental “Scarified”.

“Scarified” is a dual guitar instrumental that he wrote back when he was in Racer X. Take a listen to that track and you will hear a bunch of string skipping arpeggios all over the place.

This is a very exciting technique and once you get the patterns down it really isn’t very difficult. In this video lesson I show you a little etude that I wrote that uses the string skipping arpeggio technique throughout.

Everything will be much easier to follow if you download the TAB first. Be sure to download it from the link below.

Have fun and take you time with this one. Some of the large stretches may take a little getting used to.

This Nuno Bettencourt style tapping lesson is a continuation of our “Lick Of The Week” series at GuitarLessons365.com

In this video guitar lesson you will learn Nuno Bettencourt’s favorite patterns for playing tapped arpeggio licks across multiple strings. It requires a great deal of string skipping, large stretches and jumping around the fretboard, but after you get used to it you will have some cool tapping licks under your belt that sound quite unique and musical.

Nuno Bettencourt has an incredible guitar style full of highly rhythmic and melodic soloing that incorporates just about every technique imaginable in a completely unique way.

The tapping style that is covered in this lesson was used by Nuno Bettencourt primarily in the solo section of the song “Get The Funk Out” with his band Extreme. If you haven’t heard it by all means do because it will blow you mind.

In fact, listen to all of his songs and you will hear one of the most creative and flat out coolest guitar players in the world.

Enjoy the lick and don’t forget to download the TAB PDF below:

This free video guitar lesson is Pt.2 of our Joe Satriani style tapping series at GuitarLessons365.com. We will now cover the more chordal and rhythmic tapping style found in the second half on the song “Midnight”.

This kind of tapping style creates a very exciting sound that is very inspiring to write with. With this technique you will be able to have the entire rhythm, harmony and melody in your hands, all at once.

This video guitar lesson starts with a short demonstration piece I wrote that demonstrates the sound of the technique. You can get the TAB for that piece below:

Joe Satriani Style Tapping Pt.2 TAB PDF Download

After the demonstration, I thoroughly explain the tapping pattern that I used in the piece. It is the same tapping pattern that Joe Satriani uses in “Midnight”. From there I work you through the entire demonstration piece so you can see how easy it is to create your own music with this technique.

Have Fun!!
