This free video guitar lesson is for the beautiful fingerstyle guitar piece “Romance”. It is very well known in the classical guitar world and is a great workout for using bar chords.

The TAB for this song can be found below:

Romance Acoustic Fingerstyle TAB PDF Download

Take your time with the stretches, especially in the second half of the tune. Learn to adjust the pressure of the bar chord to be able to use as little pressure as possible in order for the notes to sound in the chord. As long as you are focused on minimal pressure it will eventually become second nature.

For the right hand, try and practice the arpeggio pattern by itself on open strings before adding the left hand. It is very important to get the prepared strokes down comfortably before putting the two hands together.

Have Fun with this beautiful piece!

This lesson for GuitarLessons365.com focuses on controlling the unused strings while you are playing single string lines. Half the battle of playing guitar is keeping the unused strings quite during playing. The is especially important the more gain or distortion that you add to your signal, which is common during solos in just about every style of music.

The key is to develop a consistent muting technique that you do almost subconsciously so you can better focus on the notes that you are playing. There are a few different way to approach muting. The main way that I describe in this video is how I personally do it. I also believe that it is probably the most common way of muting on the guitar. I also talk briefly about alternative ways of muting as well.

Take your time to develop a solid muting technique. It is extremely important to pay close attention to what you sound like. I have had countless students start soloing for me and don’t even realize that there are a few open strings just humming in the background. Proper muting will tighten up the sound immensely.

Take your time and have fun!!

This is one of my favorite John Lennon songs and the liberal use of suspended chords makes for some very beautiful guitar parts.

In this video guitar lesson you will learn how to play “Imagine” by the great John Lennon.

I have a arranged the piano parts to be played easily on acoustic guitar with some basic chords and fingerpicking. “Imagine” is probably John Lennon’s most popular song outside of his work with the Beatles. Luckily, even though it was recorded on piano, it fits quite nicely on the guitar as well.

There are 3 parts to learn for the full song and each one is broken down for you in this video guitar lesson.

This was a fun one to do sing I love the song and I know there are so many people around the world that would love to learn how to play “Imagine” on the guitar. So here ya go!!

In this free video guitar lesson you will learn how to use a capo on the guitar. I have had some requests from viewers asking how to use a guitar capo. I thought instead of answering via email a full video guitar lesson would be easier.

Just about every well known guitar player has used a capo at one time or another on the guitar. It can be used to create some dazzling effects, or just to change the key of a song. Whatever you would like to use a guitar capo for, I hope you find this simple video guitar lesson helpful.

Enjoy!! Carl..

In this video lesson I am going to show you show basic stretching exercises that I feel are essential for ALL guitar players.

Playing guitar is one of the most strenuous exercises one could do with their fingers, hands and forearms. However, it’s amazing how so many guitarist’s skip the stretching and warm-up phase of their practice schedule.

You would never run a few miles or play a game of basketball before stretching right? So I hope you see how important this stretching routine is before you virtually run a marathon with your fingers.

I learned these stretches from Aaron Shearer. For those of you who don’t know who he is, he is perhaps the most well know classical guitar teacher in the world. His hands were virtually crippled very early into his concert career and that set him on a path to help guitarist’s from getting the same repetitive stress injuries he did.

Good playing form is obviously essential to prevent injury as well, but before all of that it is essential to get your hands ready to play.

Take these exercises slowly and be sure not to try to stretch to far in the beginning. You will notice very quickly however, how much more loose and flexible and relaxed your hands feel after the stretches.

Remember, everybody’s hands are different, so take this video and adapt the exercises to work for your hands. Basically, just don’t push it to far.

OK, have fun!! Cheers!!

In today’s video guitar lesson we will continue our look at 16th note rhythms for the beginning guitarist.

Having a very fluid rhythm technique is absolutely essential for all playing styles so I urge you to spend a lot of time with this type of study. You will notice after a short while that playing rhythm along with virtually any tune your hear will become second nature to you if you can follow the basic procedures that we are covering here in these lessons.

Be sure to play close attention to the looseness of the wrist because at faster tempos it is essential that you use proper wrist technique so you won’t find yourself tightening up.

Don’t forget to grab the PDF TAB download for this lesson since it lays out all of the picking indications and counting for you.

Take your time with these studies and don’t forget, as you practice the rhythms patterns, try to memorize the sound and lock in with the feel of it so you can quit counting and just play what you feel.

Till Next Time!!

This video guitar lesson is intended to show the beginning guitarist with basic strumming technique, how to start to incorporate 16th notes into the strumming patterns.

After mastering this style of rhythm guitar you will be able to confidently play a massive amount of popular music written in a strumming style. Sixteenth notes are a little more difficult to get down because of the speed required to play them, but I feel that you will lock in with the rhythm very quickly if you can just follow this lesson as well as Pt.2.

The key to being able to physically play 16th notes well is to keep your strumming hand wrist very loose. Most of the strumming when doing quarter notes and eighth notes comes from the elbow and wrist. But most of the movement for 16th notes comes from the wrist exclusively by keeping it loose and whipping it up and down quickly over the strings.

By the end of this video series I will give you some demonstrations of what the wrist looks like when playing 16th note rhythms at higher tempos so you can see the wrist motion.

Take your time with this lesson since not only are you trying to be able to physically play the patterns, but feel and count the rhythms as well. In fact, it is a good idea to use your foot to tap the beat while clapping the actual strumming pattern before you try and play it on the guitar.

Don’t forget the PDF TAB download for this lesson since it contains all of the picking and rhythm indications.

16th Note Rhythms For Guitar Pt.1

Stay tuned for Pt.2 where we will will learn more complex 16th note patterns.
