Intermediate Guitar Lesson – Tapping On One String “Etude”

In Intermediate Guitar Lessons | on December, 12, 2009 | by | 3 Comments

In this lesson we will take the patterns that we learned in the previous one string tapping lesson and apply it to a little etude.

An etude is generally a piece of music created that allows you to work on a specific technique. So in this case that technique is tapping on one string using the patterns that we have already learned.

After you can play the etude with the pattern shown in the video and PDF, try to play it again only this time using one of the other four patterns the whole time. Do this until you can play the etude with all four patterns.

Here is the PDF Download for this lesson.

Hey Jake, I would like to do some stuff on 8 finger tapping especially since it is something that I have done a lot of in the past. Unfortunately, after studying classical guitar I have been growing my nails of my right hand long to make it easier for fingerpicking and hybrid picking. Long nails make it almost impossible to tap with those right hand fingers unless I really flatten out the fingers which makes for some pretty sloppy technique.

Because, of this I haven’t done much 8 finger tapping in the past 15 years or so. That means I pretty much suck at it. :D Perhaps sometime in the future I will find a way for it to work with my longer nails. I actually transcribed some Paganini for 8 finger tapping when I was younger and I still have the TAB laying around here somewhere, but I couldn’t actually play it myself at this point. :(

Thanks for the interest in my site though, hope you can find some other stuff to keep you busy here at GuitarLessons365.

Cheers!! Carl..
