John Petrucci Style Chromatic Scales Guitar Lesson Lick Of The Week

In Advanced Guitar Lessons | on September, 10, 2010 | by | 5 Comments

In this next video guitar lesson of our “Lick Of The Week” series, we will learn a cool guitar lick in the style of John Petrucci, the legendary guitarist of the prog-rock band Dream Theater.

John Petrucci’s soloing style incorporates many different elements. One element he seems to always go back to is his love of throwing chromatic lines within his solos.

This kind of a guitar lick can really create a lot of tension when used properly within a solo. It creates a sense of total chaos.

The key to learning this guitar lick and incorporating it into your playing is to understand how it can be understood as a bunch of smaller repeating elements. Most very complicated licks can be understood this way in some shape or form.

If you watch the whole video guitar lesson you should easily be able to create similar chromatic lines yourself.

Hi Carl,I dropped by your site and watched some of your lessons, I have to say that you make thing look simple and also you explain it in a very easy to understand way. Have you ever thought about selling your video´s through an affiliate program? If so I would be interested in selling them on my site.
