The beautiful tune “Edelweiss” was first heard in the musical The Sound Of Music. As one of the last compositions by the legendary songwriting team Rodgers & Hammerstein, it’s hauntingly beautiful melody and melancholy feel was an instant smash. After the film version of The Sound Of Music become a hit, “Edelweiss” seemed to take on a life of it’s own. It is now performed by itself regularly everywhere around the world by symphony orchestras, choirs, in holiday celebrations and in various church services. It’s endearing melody seems to strike a chord within just about anyone who hears. In this version of the tune, I have arranged it for solo guitar. I have attempted to give the melody it’s space while harmonizing it with some nice harmonies to support it.
